Biography

Julian Breece is an award-winning writer-director whose work crosses film and TV. Breece wrote the original screenplay for the upcoming Netflix original film "Bayard" about gay Civil Rights strategist Bayard Rustin and the March on Washington. He co-wrote the Emmy-nominated Netflix series "When They See Us" and penned the screenplay for a feature film on the life of acclaimed choreographer Alvin Ailey for Fox Searchlight with Oscar-winner Barry Jenkins attached to direct. Breece has also been a writer and producer on critically acclaimed series such as Amazon's "Harlem" and Hulu's "The First". Featured as one of IndieWIRE's young "Filmmakers to Watch," Breece first earned critical acclaim with his short, The Young & Evil, which became an Official Selection of the Sundance Film Festival. In that same period, Breece was honored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences as a top-10 Nicholl finalist for his first screenplay, Ball.
