Crime and Punishment

Crime and Punishment (1866)

Crime and Punishment is one of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s most profound psychological novels, exploring the darkest corners of the human mind and the consequences of crossing one’s own moral boundaries. It follows Rodion Raskolnikov, a poor and intellectually ambitious student who becomes convinced that certain extraordinary individuals have the right to transgress moral laws for a greater purpose. After committing a terrible crime, however, his theory collides with the unbearable reality of guilt, fear, isolation, and conscience. Through his psychological descent and gradual transformation, Dostoevsky explores morality, free will, suffering, redemption, faith, and the possibility of spiritual rebirth. The novel ultimately asks one of its most disturbing questions: can a person escape the consequences of his actions, or must he first confront the truth within himself?
