The series premiered on September 5, 2005, and aired on every Monday to Thursday at 10pm IST on Sahara One channel, starring Kuljeet Randhawa in the lead. It became a success due to its stylised promotions and marketing and was acclaimed for its noble story and theme. Besides, to promote the series, the channel launched a Diwali contest named "Kohinoor Ki Diwali Heeron Waali" from October 17 to 31, where it gave away 45 laks worth of diamonds to 300 randomly selected participants.

Murder in Mississippi is a 1990 television movie which dramatized the last weeks of civil rights activists Michael "Mickey" Schwerner, Andrew Goodman and James Chaney, and the events leading up to their disappearance and subsequent murder in the summer of 1964. It starred Tom Hulce as Schwerner, Jennifer Grey as his wife Rita, Blair Underwood as Chaney, and Josh Charles as Goodman. Hulce received a nomination for Best Actor in a TV Miniseries at the 1990 Golden Globes. As a historical docudrama, Murder in Mississippi precedes the storylines of both 1975's Attack on Terror: The FBI vs. the Ku Klux Klan and 1988's Mississippi Burning. 'Murder in Mississippi is the title of a Norman Rockwell 1964 painting, depicting the same events. The painting is also known as: "Southern Justice."

One day, Doctor Kroch (Henk van Ulsen) receives a chest full of gold, accompanied by a half-illegible letter pleading for help. When the chest is later stolen by bandits Oenk (Tabe Bas) and Boenk (John Lanting), Doctor Kroch starts to think there might be more to it after all. He decides, together with his servant Valet (Henk Molenberg), to try to find the sender of the letter, the Duke of Woestewolf (Ton van Duinhoven). During his journey, the doctor is warned by Esmeralda, a gypsy fortune-teller (Elsa Lioni). Nevertheless, he continues his journey. “Ghosts do not exist. Everything can be explained by science,” the doctor claims. But the closer he gets to Woestewolf, the stranger his adventures become.
