Estela, an influential businesswoman, arrives at the port of Pucusana on behalf of a consortium that wishes to transform the port into an exclusive tourist resort. The resistance of the locals and the insistence of investors reach their peak when two fishermen find Estela mysteriously murdered. Leonardo Oviedo, Estela's partner, goes to the port to investigate the homicide and finish the negotiation with his girlfriend Mariana, his secretary (and lover) Charo and his clumsy assistant Ramos. This fact triggers a violent history, which puts the entire port in panic. Mariana, sensitive and confused, will seek refuge in a fisherman named Iván with whom she begins a relationship
In the midst of Shouwa era Japan, greed runs rampant through the bustling cities and communities of the nation. King of Hell Enma Daiou summons an envoy into his office in the form of a small boy named Kurayami Santa. Through Enma's debriefing, Santa learns that the amount of greed and selfish behavior produced by humans will soon create an enormous wave of souls entering into Hell simultaneously, which would be catastrophic for Hell itself.
Santa is given one mission: do something about it. With neither guidelines nor rules, Santa is tasked to handle the situation as he sees fit. In the human world, a rampaging thunderstorm strikes a nearby cemetery with a bolt of lightning, and the envoy of Hell appears.
Teleported into the human world, Santa quickly realizes that humans are just as wicked as Enma had described. Without upsetting the balance between light and dark, Santa begins his quest to complete the mission from Hell and restore order to the human world.
Ji Eun is the daughter of a wealthy chaebol family. She is bright, humorous, beautiful, and smart. Ji Eun meets Se Hoon, who runs a small furniture workshop. Unlike Ji Eun, Se Hoon comes from a poor family background. He was once the top student at a prestigious university, but he had to drop out due to his sick mother. Nevertheless, Ji Eun falls deeply in love with Se Hoon. She confesses her feelings to him. Se Hoon is also in love with Ji Eun, but he turns her down due to the extreme differences in their backgrounds. Eventually, Se Hoon is unable to bury his feelings any longer and they decide to marry.
The first part of the story begins when Juan's little daughter (Ethan Wayne), María Bonangelo (Grecia Colmenares), is adopted by the wealthy family of Encarnación and Manuel Olazábal, after the death of their biological mother, Amalia (Amanda Sandrelli ). María receives the last name of her new family, as well as two adoptive relatives: her sister Victoria (Viviana Saccone) and her aunt Asunción (Luisa Kuliok). The girls Victoria and María grow up as true sisters in a family ranch: "La Esperanza", until they arrive in the city of Santa María with their parents at approximately 20 years of age.
