star 1twentyfourseven was a documentary-style reality show on MTV that documented the lives of seven male friends seeking fame and fortune in Hollywood. Launched in December 2006, the show aired on Wednesday nights in the Ten Spot block after The Real World. The show faced low ratings and critical derision, and some viewers were suspicious that certain portions of the show were staged for dramatic effect; for instance, Greg Cipes was described as a singer new to the Los Angeles music scene, despite his acting in small live-action roles and voicing characters for animated series for several years. Also in question was Chris Carney's arrest in his hometown of Hot Springs, Arkansas for a DWI charge. His booking may have been refilmed after all charges against him were dropped. Specifically, upon arrest, Carney had a buzzcut. When he was released the subsequent day, a discontinuity error emerged, revealing that he had grown a mohawk. Maui Fever is an American reality television series on MTV. The series debuted on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at 10:30PM on MTV. The series reveals the daily lives of several young haole friends living in the Kaanapali area on the island of Maui. Following the style of MTV's Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, The Hills and 8th & Ocean, Maui Fever was shot as a "reality drama". Maui Fever cast members never spoke directly to the camera or gave testimonials, a tactic used in MTV's The Real World and in traditional documentaries. However, a voice-over narrative spoken by Cheyne Magnusson, one of the main characters, was used at the beginning of each episode to set up the scene and tie together storylines. The show is an animated sketch comedy show focused on pop culture, celebrities, and famous figures. Each episode consists of about 30 sketches, each under a minute. Celebrities such as Britney Spears, K-Fed, Criss Angel and even fictional ones like Harry Potter have all been targets in some of the early sketches released on YouTube. It was hosted by Jon Stewart, future host of The Daily Show. The comedians performed humorous sketch recreations of letters sent to the MTV offices by viewers, depicting outrageous stories and events from their daily lives, with introductions by Stewart. An early example of crowdsourcing, the show only lasted one season, premiering in 1992 and being canceled in 1993. Jon Stewart would later quip, "You wrote it, you just didn't watch it!"
